JAY HUMPHREYS is an award-winning author who specializes in what he calls "fictional non-fiction." His novels and stories make history come alive -- they are truly literary time travel at its very best. When it comes to scientific topics, he consistently makes the most highly technical and seemingly incomprehensible subjects not only understandable, but entertaining.  His work has become especially popular with readers who want to be enlightened and entertained -- but his meticulous research and attention to detail have gained the respect of professional historians and scientists.  Whether it is re-creating a seaside Florida town and its inhabitants in 1942 or describing a young dolphin's gut-wrenching struggle for survival in a shark-infested lagoon, his writing is accurate, vibrant and memorable.

His lifelong passion for history and science has convinced him that these are not subjects to be confined to a classroom.  For him, these are subjects that explain the path we have followed to reach where we, as human beings, are today and explains how the natural world functions both with and without us. Through his writings, he presents these subjects in a way that can be enjoyed and appreciated without the distractions posed by the possibility that a"pop quiz" might spoil the reader's day.

It's April 1942, and St. Augustine glistens in the Florida sun.  For the residents of the nation's oldest city, the ravages of a world war seem far away. Comfortable in their tidy, historic community, increasing tourism seems more important than fighting fascism.  Especially when they can enjoy themselves nightly at Uncle Sam's -- a place where flag-waving patriotism, big band music and cold beer are blended to conceal a horrible secret!  For more, go to Writings.
