A graduate of West Virginia University's Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism, Jay Humphreys has more than 25 years of writing and media relations experience. A Washington, D.C. speechwriter and briefings officer during the Carter and Reagan years, he also worked for the Congressional Information Service and conducted media relations projects for several federal agencies. A former director of communications at the University of Florida (1988-1998), he has received numerous writing and public relations awards. In 2005, Florida International Magazine selected him for their annual list of 100 outstanding Floridians.
From an early age, he was able to express his imagination through the written word -- a skill that he largely ignored while pursuing sports and preparing for a military career.
His favorite writers are Michael and Jeff Shaara, William Faulkner and fellow West Virginian Homer Hickam. Favorite book? The Bible -- "the basis for every great plot and unforgettable character -- truly timeless," he says.
